1) Classroom Pitch

One of the best ways to gain interest and exposure for your organization is to pitch the mission of INFLA-Medicine to classes at your university. Whether you choose to speak in your own classes or visit others, sharing this mission as widely as possible is key to finding interested members. During this pitch, you can talk about your mission and vision, share your why, and gain exposure for your group. Talk about how you became interested in INFLA-medicine and why everyone should probably care about it! It may be helpful to have a PowerPoint slide or a printout including information such as:

  • · Organization name

  • · Brief mission statement

  • · QR code linking to your organization webpage

  • · Social media accounts (include @inflamedicine, if you wish)

  • · Date/time/location of upcoming meetings

Classroom pitch example:

Hi everyone! My name is name, and I am a year in school, majoring in whatever yada yada. I recently started a campus organization called org name. This group is for students who are interested in learning about a more holistic approach to healthcare that combines the advancements in modern science with the wisdom of human biology to help students optimize their health and prevent disease so they can do the same for their future patients. This approach empowers and challenges students, specifically future healthcare professionals, to think deeper, to think differently, to think holistically about human health and wellness. In the United States, as well-intentioned as it may be, we largely focus on the science of disease, rather than the science of health— we love to diagnose symptom clusters and use pharmaceuticals as band aids to treat the outward expression of the deeper, systemic disease hallmarks. Thankfully, the science is in and we have the power to address the root cause of disease or dysfunction and treat the patient respectively. The advancements in modern medicine are beautiful, incredible and necessary, especially in emergency situations and in the treatment of acute illnesses. However, the United States puts more funding into healthcare than any other nation, while simultaneously being the most chronically diseased society to ever walk the planet. Clearly, something is not working, so, this student organization for new medicine works to combine the best of modern science with the intelligence of human physiology to optimize health and prevent disease. You should not have to be sick to get better! If you are interested in being a part of this mission, please join us at our next meeting wherever at whatever o’ clock to hear from local boss genius doctor/researcher/farmer/person who overcame a chronic illness with INFLA-Medicine... speak about interesting topic pertaining to health and wellness.

Orrrrr just own it! Say whatever feels right to advocate for your organization and your mission.

2) Campus-wide Email

It's likely that your university has a resource for students to send announcements to the campus email list. This is a great way to reach your broadest audience. You can use this resource to announce the accreditation of your new organization, remind students of upcoming meetings, and promote future events. Here is an example of a campus email used to announce the establishment of The Holistic, Integrative, and Naturopathic Club of Medicine (THINC Medicine) at NDSU.

Subject: ReTHINC Healthcare

What is THINC Medicine?

The Holistic, Integrative, and Naturopathic Club of Medicine (THINC Medicine) empowers students to think holistically about health and wellness through the science of root-cause medicine. This approach to healthcare combines the best of modern science with the wisdom of nature to create health and prevent disease.

Why is this important?

The current healthcare model in the United States primarily focuses on masking symptoms, while failing to remove the root cause. With this strategy, we are not living longer, we are dying longer. It is critical that our generation is devoted to creating health, rather than enabling an outdated approach to healthcare.

Who should get involved?

THINC Medicine is an organization for all students interested in health optimization and disease prevention. Since physical health is critical for living a life of vitality and virtue, we provide actionable tools and empowering education to facilitate the mission of making wellness accessible and common.

How can I become a part of this mission?

Please join us at our first meeting on Thursday, March 30th at 7:00 pm in AG Hill 122 where we will be hearing from Dr. Jake Schmitz about the importance of targeting the patient's most upstream cause, the role of the gut microbiome in overall health, and so much more. Follow this link to join the group! https://myndsu.ndsu.edu/organization/thinc

3) Social Media

Social Media is a great way to draw attention to your student organization. Here are some ways you can leverage your favorite online tools to grow your group.

  • Announce the establishment of your new organization (congrats, btw!)

  • Create a post describing your mission and vision

  • Post about what you actually do at your meetings

  • Share and break down new research studies

  • Pose clips of key moments from past guest speakers

  • You know how to use social media- just do your thing!
